Solution to: Permission denied to get property XULElement.popupOpen

What’s that firefox? A cryptic error message? Timmy’s drowning at the old mill?!

I came across this rather strange bug while switching from a file input to a combination of SWFUploader and a text field.

Permission denied to get property XULElement.popupOpen

The problem seems to occur when focusing on the input via javascript.

Solution? Easy, Just add this to your text input:

autocomplete=”off”

And then give firefox a nice pop on the head for being a bad fox! Bad Fox! ...No!

I hope that saves you some headache and confusion =)

This is a title

This is a subhead

This is some text of dubious character. Isn’t the use of “quotes” just lazy writing—and theft of ‘intellectual property’ besides? I think the time has come to see a block quote.

This is a block quote. I’ll admit it’s not the most exciting block quote ever devised.

Simple list:

  1. one
  2. two
  3. three

Multi-level list:

  1. one
    1. aye
    2. bee
    3. see
  2. two
    1. x
    2. y
  3. three

Mixed list:

  • Point one
  • Point two
    1. Step 1
    2. Step 2
    3. Step 3
  • Point three
    • Sub point 1
    • Sub point 2

Well, that went well. How about we insert an old-fashioned hypertext link? Will the quote marks in the tags get messed up? No!

This is a link

this is a header
this is a row
this is another row

An image:

optional alt text

  1. Librarians rule
  2. Yes they do
  3. But you knew that

Some more text of dubious character. Here is a noisome string of CAPITAL letters. Here is something we want to emphasize. That was a linebreak. And something to indicate strength. Of course I could use my own HTML tags if I felt like it.

Coding

This is some code, "isn't it". Watch those quote marks! Now for some preformatted text:

    $text = str_replace("<p>%::%</p>","",$text);
    $text = str_replace("%::%</p>","",$text);
    $text = str_replace("%::%","",$text);

This isn’t code.

So you see, my friends:

  • The time is now
  • The time is not later
  • The time is not yesterday
  • We must act

Rick Wright 1943-2008

I was actually listening to David Gilmour’s first solo record when i read that yesterday Richard Wright died. I’m sad to hear it. He was working on a new album, so I would guess he didn’t want to go yet. I’ve been a Pink Floyd fan since i was young and it’s unfortunate to lose another one of them.

Microsoft's Mojave experiment

There’s been a bunch of press about Microsoft’s Mojave experiment, where they presented Vista to some naive users, telling them it was actually a new operating system, code-named ‘Mojave’. Unsurprisingly, it rated better than Vista, even though it was just a copy of Vista. This is actually a very valuable experiment, since it tells us exactly how much the placebo effect controls perceptions of a new operating system, and the bar which Microsoft must exceed in order to actually make improvements to their operating system. Microsoft claims a pre-demo rating of 4.4 for Vista and a post-demo rating of 8.5 for Mojave, so now I know that anything less than a doubling of user ratings for Microsoft’s next OS means it actually got worse ;-)

los tomates han regresado( plus ff3 throwdown )

Although there were not any reports of salmonella glazed tomatoes in Florida, I was unable to get any on a sandwich the last few days. Today they have returned and have thus helped me order an exponentially tastier sandwich. I would like to personally thank whoever it was that decided to wash their hands after rolling in pig excrement and raw chickens and before touching these particular tomatoes. Sadly, I may never get the chance…

I looked through the mozilla site and there are no Firefox 3 release parties listed in the entire state of Florida. Disappointing. Admittedly, it’s only disappointing because i want to go to a FF3 party and pretend it’s a Final Fantasy 3 party. I’ll come in costume, Materia in hand. Yes I’m talking about the american version(FFVI, technically).
